Bill’s story begins on a local family farm located in Princeton, Ca. Bill is a 5th generation farmer who decided to go in a totally new direction and create one of the largest commercial craft breweries in Northern California – Farmer’s Brewing Company.
We talk with this local entrepreneur about life on the farm, and scaling a business by himself to a number of full-time employees. Farmer’s Brewery now brews easy drinking, sessionable beers using grains grown on their farm.
Our conversation “flows” from the evolution of his brewing techniques in back of a pickup truck, to how he expanded to open a new brewery.
Farmer’s Brewing Company was founded by Bill Weller, a fifth-generation farmer with a passion for brewing beer. Located in “sprawling” Princeton, CA, a population 407, the family farm has been in operation since the 1800s -currently producing rice, almonds, walnuts, and wheat. GPS-guided tractors have replaced the mule-driven machinery used to till the same soil a century ago, but much remains the same.
